PLACID LASSIE + PARATROOPERS
Placid Lassie is a 1943 Douglas C-47 Skytrain, a real World War II combat veteran preserved and flown by the Tunison Foundation.
Placid Lassie was built in 1943 and served with the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II, assigned to the 74th Troop Carrier Squadron, 434th Troop Carrier Group. She participated in major operations including D-Day (Operation Overlord), Operation Market Garden, the Battle of the Bulge, and Operation Varsity, transporting paratroopers and supplies across Europe. Unlike many restored warbirds, Placid Lassie is an original aircraft, not a replica or composite, with the same rivets that flew over Normandy on June 6, 1944.
